The Dutchman managed to gain a lot of ground on his main rivals despite the stage having been shortened due to extreme heat.

From the get-go, de Rooy confidently led the way throughout the whole day - and beat everyone in the field, apart from teammate Ton van Genugten, by more than 16 minutes.

Van Genugten, meanwhile, only four minutes slower, which allowed him to climb up to fifth in the overall classification.

Andrey Karginov ended up best of the rest in the stage, closely followed by local driver Federico Villagra - while de Rooy's nearest rival Eduard Nikolaev was fifth, dropping almost 20 minutes.

Several usual frontrunners had an even worse time of it - including Ayrat Mardeev and Peter Versluis, who were 29 and 37 minutes off respectively, whereas erstwhile leader Hans Stacey lost over an hour.
