NO EASY RIDE FOR 4X4 MEGA WORLD 400 COMPETITORS AT CARNIVAL CITY

The route might be compact but there will be no easy ride for competitors at the 4x4 Mega World 400 at Carnival City on the east rand on August 27 and 28.

The event is round five of the Absa Off Road Championship and heralds in the second half of the series with some interesting championship battles developing. The season has also produced a few surprises with crews regarded as underdogs coming to the fore in recent events.

"The route is compact but it takes in varying terrain and is going to be a tough test for crews and machinery," said race director Adri Roets. "There is a mountain section that will be particularly tricky, and we are going to make crews work hard for their results."

The Donaldson Prologue on August 27 to determine start positions will be run over a 60 kilometre section that will give teams a taste of what to expect during the race the next day. The race proper will be run over two loops of 175 kilometres.

As usual the route is spectator friendly with numerous viewing points all within easy distance of race headquarters at Carnival City. The furthest spectator point is only 40 kilometres from race headquarters.

The 4x4 Mega World 400 at Carnival City is one of selected races that will also incorporate a round of the Northern Regions off road championship. The move is part of a project by the SA National Off Road Car Racing Association to boost racing at grass roots level, and regional competitors will complete one loop of the course.

Race headquarters, the start/finish and designated service point will all be located at Carnival City and public entry to these areas is free. There is also free public entry to spectator viewing points with enthusiasts asked to respect the environment.

The Donaldson Prologue will start at 11:30 on August 27 and the race at 08:00 on August 28.
