Draco Racing kept momentum after the good form showed in the pre-season testing sessions: in Monza, where the F.Renault 3.5 championship is holding the first weekend of the 2014 season, the team owned by Guto Negrão enjoyed a good start shining among the top-runners at the end of the Free Practice day.
On home soil, Italian youngster Luca Ghiotto boasted an impressive performance, clocking the second fastest laptime of the day with a 1'33"899 in the afternoon session.
On the team's other car, Pietro Fantin was on the pace too, finishing seventh in the morning and ending the second session in fourth place, less than two tenths off Ghiotto.
Today's performances bode well for tomorrow's qualifying session, scheduled for 11.30 AM. Race 1 will then start 4.20 PM.
Pietro Fantin (S1 - P7; S2 - P4): "It was a very positive day for us, everytime we hit the track the car is capable of top 5 performances straight out of the box, and this means that we have a very good base setup. We still have to work on the details to find that extra tenth here and there, and I can also find something in my driving, so all in all we're really looking good for tomorrow".
Luca Ghiotto (S1 - P13; S2 - P2): "Even if it's only free practice, I have to say that being second really feels good. The team chose a good strategy for today, focusing on the 'boring' stuff in the morning: we did some runs in race-trim, with more fuel and a low downforce setup, and we lapped with just one set of tyres. That meant that in the afternoon we could focus on quick laptimes, and the timesheet shows that we did that pretty well. Now I hope to keep momentum for tomorrow's qualifying".
