Hong Kong - Chapter one of the Asia Trilogy on the Suzuka Circuit turns out to be a successful, if not a great race weekend for Darryl O’Young, as the ROAL Motorsport driver showed some determination fighting from the back of the pack to take home eight points from the Race of Japan yesterday. O’Young retained sixth on the Yokohama Drivers’ Trophy standings with 59 points after ten races.

It was some heroic performance from the 33-year-old as he started both rounds from overall P19. O’Young crossed the chequered flag with an independent P5 and overall P13 finish in the opening race, whilst he was also the third-fastest BMW driver on the track.

Another impressive round later saw the Hong Kong-based race driver finished with an independent P5 and overall P10. The results allowed O’Young to take home eight points to stay sixth on the independent standings, and to grab the last World Championship point.

Speaking of his performance, Darryl appeared to be very pleased, “I never give up so I was determined to give two strong races. In the opening race, 13th isn’t the greatest position, but I am quite pleased as I fought for each and every position today to get back up the order.

As for the second race, it was very difficult, as I had to try and attack the car in front, but also had to defend from the cars behind. It was an intense 26 laps of the Suzuka short track and to make it back up into the overall points was a good achievement considered where we start.”
