Strong fight back for Greaves Motorsport in 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps
Elton Julian, Christian Zugal and Ricardo Gonzalez finished 3rd in class in the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the second round of the 2012 FIA World Endurance Championship. The results means that the team lies third in the points classification.
Driving the Greaves Motorsport Nissan powered Zytek Z11SN LM P2 prototype, the trio climbed from the back of the field on lap one. This was the result of contact at Pouhon with another car. A pit stop to repair the consequent damage lost three laps but strong performances from all the drivers and the usual slick pit stops from the team enabled the car to be in a position to move up the leader board.
Elton Julian drove the first stint. “I am not really sure what happened on the first lap, there was no visibility and then the pack came to a virtual halt and I had contact with someone but I am not sure how or who. I am really pleased for my team mates and for all the guys who work so hard, third place is good result, especially in the context of the Championship.”
Christian Zugel took over from Elton to drive the middle stint, “We had a very difficult start to the race with the incident involving Elton but he recovered well. The team gave me a good car as usual and I was pleased with my stint and my times improved as the laps passed. I am really happy with the end result and I am Iooking forward to the next race, the Le Mans 24 Hours.”
Driving the car to the flag was Ricardo Gonzalez. “ I am really happy with the result, its a shame that we had the problem at the start but we showed how strong the team is by making quick repairs and coming back all the way from last place. This is the type of work that will help us be successful at Le Mans.
Spa is an amazing track, and driving it in our LM P2 Zytek-Nissan is a lot of fun. We are getting better and better and working better as a team, now the priority is to concentrate on Le Mans and try to repeat the win that the team had last year.”
Jacob Greaves, Team Manager of Greaves Motorsport commented. “ It was a great result after such a problematical start and the team is well placed to achieve further success in the FIA World Endurance Championship. The combination of Nissan power, the Zytek chassis and Dunlop Tyres were equal to the conditions and we are optimistic of achieving a good result at our next race in Le Mans.”
