Qatar winner Vinales logged a best time of 1m39.620s late on in the 20-minute session, using medium tyres front and rear in dry conditions at Termas de Rio Hondo after rain affected qualifying on Saturday.

Marquez was the Yamaha rider's closest challenger, setting a time 0.115s slower on the Repsol Honda, with erstwhile leader Cal Crutchlow dropping to third on the LCR Honda, 0.182s slower than Vinales.

Aspar's Alvaro Bautista was best of the Ducatis in fourth less than a tenth further back, followed by Scott Redding's Pramac machine, Aleix Espargaro's Aprilia and Andrea Iannone's Suzuki.

The second works Honda of Dani Pedrosa, Jonas Folger's Tech 3 Yamaha and Danilo Petrucci (Pramac Ducati) completed a top 10 split by less than seven tenths of a second.

Valentino Rossi had set the pace midway through the session, but slumped to 12th by the finish, 0.745s slower than Yamaha teammate Vinales.

Jorge Lorenzo meanwhile was 15th quickest, 0.927s off the pace, and one place ahead of factory Ducati teammate Andrea Dovizioso.

Qualifying star Karel Abraham crashed his Aspar Ducati at Turn 2 on his way to 22nd, with Jack Miller also losing his Marc VDS Honda at Turn 5.
