Silverstone MotoGP - Race

Live Text

That's it for us for the day - a spectacular race that yielded yet another well-deserved new MotoGP winner.

It would've not felt quite right if Maverick Vinales were to leave Suzuki without a victory in a season like this one - and Vinales duly grabbed his best opportunity with both hands.

The championship picture is largely unchanged, although Valentino Rossi is now within two races of Marc Marquez.

There's six more grands prix to go. Will we get another shock new winner next week at Misano, or will it be back to normal for MotoGP?

Vinales: "It feels incredible. All I fight all the time, I come through for a race like that - I could manage all the time, the laptimes were good.

"I came to this weekend thinking I could win. I felt great at Silverstone always and my bike was on a great level. And we did it. One dream that came true.

"I hope I can give to Suzuki more things like that."

Crutchlow: "It was a long race. Good fun, very fun to be battling the guys at the front.

"I think we've deserved this, the crowd here deserved this. They've backed me over the years, most of the time I've been in the hospital - to be here on the podium for them is fantastic.

"I didn't expect to be on the podium, so to come away in a second place is good."

Rossi: "I'm very happy, it was a hard battle, I fight for all the race, I never give up. After eight-nine laps, I was sliding a lot on the rear, it was hard to control the rear.

"Very fun battle with Marquez and Crutchlow and I'm very happy for this podium."

Crutchlow and Rossi are likewise thrilled.

This is Crutchlow's third podium in the past four races. After a rocky start to the season, he's really turned a corner - he was brilliant today.
A special shoutout goes to Vinales' girlfriend - women's motocross star Kiara Fontanesi - who was in Suzuki's pitbox and could not bear to watch that final lap.

What a fantastic win.
This is Suzuki's first win since Chris Vermeulen's Le Mans triumph in 2007.

Maverick might have very well broken his team's hearts by deciding to sign with Yamaha for next year - but made sure of a spot in Suzuki's history books today.

That's seven different winners in the past seven races in MotoGP - and the fourth first-time winner from the past five races.

Then it's Marquez, Pedrosa, Dovizioso, Espargaro, Lorenzo, Petrucci, Bautista.

Alex Lowes is a very reasonable 13th on his debut.

Cal Crutchlow is second, Valentino Rossi makes up the podium.
Maverick Vinales wins the 2016 British motorcycle Grand Prix! Booyah.
Marquez is all over teammate Pedrosa, who surely won't put up too tough a fight.
Marquez runs wide trying to pass Crutchlow, he loses out to Rossi and Pedrosa!
Crutchlow is not letting Marquez go, they've now traded position three more times.
Three tenths between Marquez and Crutchlow, Rossi has dropped back.
Three laps to go for Maverick Vinales and Suzuki.

This will be the longest three laps of his life.
There's a little less than a second between Crutchlow and Marquez, with Rossi, Pedrosa and Dovizioso sticking with the championship leader.
Less than four laps to go, it's 4.8s between Maverick Vinales and Cal Crutchlow out front.
Marquez and Rossi are putting on an absolutely crazy fight here - and Marquez finally gets the move done for P3.
Marquez's been off the track while fighting Rossi - but he remains P4.
Rabat picked up a 0.5s penalty for track limits, which is apparently a thing.
Current order:
1 Vinales
2 Iannone
3 Crutchlow
4 Rossi
5 Marquez
6 Pedrosa
7 Dovizioso
8 A. Espargaro
9 Lorenzo
10 Petrucci
11 Bautista
12 Hernandez
13 Barbera
14 Miller
15 Lowes
16 Laverty
17 Rabat
18 Redding
And now Crutchlow dives down the inside of Rossi as well! P3.
It really doesn't look like anyone in the Rossi group will have the pace to chase Iannone, who is starting to check out in P2.
Iannone gets a superb run on Rossi down the inside of Turn 1, job done.
Aleix Espargaro has picked up a 1-second penalty for... something.

He's more than a second ahead of Lorenzo at the moment.
