Haas Formula 1 driver Ollie Bearman crashed out of the Japanese Grand Prix.
The safety car was deployed after the Briton crashed into the barriers at Spoon Curve on Lap 22. Bearman was seen limping away from the wreck and sitting at the side of the track surrounded by marshals before heading to the medical centre.
Haas has since confirmed that the driver didn't sustain a fracture after x-rays at the medical centre, despite the impact measuring at 50G. He does, however, have a right knee contusion. The British driver was excused from post-race media duties.
Replays showed that the Haas driver went for an overtake on Alpine's Franco Colapinto, who appeared to be harvesting energy, but lost control before the corner entry, dipped onto the grass before sliding back across the track and into the barrier. Haas has also revealed that Bearman was travelling at 308kph at the time of the crash.
"He had huge closing speed against the car in front, so had to take avoiding action and went on the grass and crashed. Scary," Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu told Sky Sports F1.
"I believe so yes," he added, when asked if Bearman was now in the medical centre.
Bearman had started the race from 18th on the grid and was fighting for 17th position at the time of the crash.
Despite the crash, Bearman has had a strong start to the 2026 season, sitting fifth in the drivers' standings prior to the Japanese Grand Prix.
