Franco Colapinto

Franco Colapinto began his single-seater career towards the end of 2018 in the Spanish Formula 4 championship, before contesting the full 2019 campaign and taking the title.

In 2020, the Argentine finished third in both the Formula Renault Eurocup and Toyota Racing Series which enabled him to step up to the Formula Regional European Championship in 2021. Colapinto dovetailed that with outings in the Asian Le Mans Series, European Le Mans Series and the World Endurance Championship – including a maiden start at the Le Mans 24 Hours – all for G-Drive Racing. He also made two starts in sportscars with Team WRT.

But for 2022 his full focus returned to single-seaters, as he stepped up to the FIA Formula 3 championship and ended the year ninth in the standings for Van Amersfoort Racing. A switch to MP Motorsport in 2023 saw him climb to fourth in the standings, along with an early promotion to Formula 2 at Yas Marina. He also joined the Williams Driver Academy that season.

As an F2 rookie he took a maiden series win in the Imola sprint race which he followed up with two runner-up results in the Catalunya feature race and Red Bull Ring sprint race. However, his time in F2 was cut short after he was given a surprise mid-season promotion to Formula 1 at Williams in place of Logan Sargeant from the Italian GP until the end of the season.

With Carlos Sainz joining Williams from 2025, it meant Colapinto had to leave the team for another F1 opportunity, so he began the year as reserve driver at Alpine. But after just six rounds, Colapinto returned to the F1 grid as he replaced Jack Doohan in the team’s driver line-up for the rest of the 2025 season.

2025 – Alpine 

20th – 0 Points

Colapinto switched allegiances to Alpine for 2025, admittedly with Williams’ blessing, as he initially took up a reserve driver role at the Enstone squad. But with pressure mounting on Jack Doohan, the Argentine got the nod for another mid-season step into an F1 race seat.

Making his Alpine race debut at Imola, Colapinto struggled to get to grips with the undercooked A525 and failed to score a point all year. His best result was 11th at the Dutch GP.

2024 – Williams

19th – 5 points

Parachuted into Williams from the Italian GP as replacement for Logan Sargeant, Colapinto scored points on his second start with eighth place at the Azerbaijan GP. The Argentine picked up a further point with 10th place at the US GP.
