Not the finish Kyle Busch needed

DOVER, Del.. — Kyle Busch appeared destined for his first top-five finish of the season until he was nailed by the lapped-down car of Brian Scott on Sunday. 

Busch, who qualified 10th for the FedEx 400 at Dover, was sixth by the first caution on Lap 74. By Lap 100, he was fourth and remained among the top five for most of the race. He was fourth when the No. 33 Chevy made contact with the No. 18 Toyota. 

When the Joe Gibbs Racing team asked what happened, spotter Tony Hirschman replied, “He just run us down unto the apron. 

“I have no clue what that was all about,” Scott said initially. After reviewing the tape, he apologized to Busch on Twitter.  

Despite Scott’s apology, it didn't soften the blow of Busch finishing 36th and picking up just nine points for his effort at Dover. Busch, who missed the first 11 races of the season, is desperately battling to accumulate points and work his way into the top 30 in the standings. He currently trails Justin Allgaier by 168 points.

“I guess Brian said his spotter didn’t say anything and he just chopped the corner and I was under him already and it just sucked me around,” Busch said. “I hate it. I hate it for my guys. Man, we had a really good run going obviously -- we ran in the top-five all day long. Just hate it for the Skittles Camry and everybody at M&M Mars. 

“This is a shame. This isn’t what we need, and we weren’t going to win today but it doesn’t help when you finish 40th.”   

If there is a silver lining, Busch didn't injure himself in the wreck. He told the interviewer his legs were “fine”.
