Porsche confirms US return in 2016
Porsche North America has confirmed that it will return to next year's renamed WeatherTech Sports Car Championship to defend its crown.
Outright victory at last weekend's Petit Le Mans for the #911 car piloted by Patrick Pilet and Nick Tandy sealed the 2015 Tudor United SportsCar Championship crown for the Stuttgart-based marque, as well as the individual title for Pilet by 10 points from BMW duo Bill Auberlen and Dirk Werner.
The sister #912 machine, driven by Jorg Bergmiester throughout the season, finished the year sixth.
Porsche has announced that it will continue to field a pair of factory 911 RSRs in America in next year's series, which begins with the blue-riband Daytona 24 Hours in January.
“The USA is the most important sports car market for Porsche,” said Porsche Motorsport boss Frank-Steffen Walliser.
“We take on the challenge of defending the titles we won this year in the 2016 season and continue to trust the excellent work done by our race team Porsche North America."
