Sauber: Computer simulation to prepare for the Mexican GP

Austin, – After 23 years Formula One is returning to Mexico City. With an altitude of about 2,300 metres above sea level, the Mexican Grand Prix can be considered as the Formula One race held at the highest altitude. In the past especially, this altitude affected the normally aspirated engines. Nowadays it will also have an influence on the hybrid turbo engines due to the lack of oxygen. For the revival of the Mexican Grand Prix, the “Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez“ has undergone several changes as well as some rebuilding since 1992.

Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr, as well as the engineers, used different computer simulations to prepare for this track, which is new to everyone. Both drivers expect the days to be busy. On Friday during practice they will run as many laps as possible, in order to generate real time data in addition to the virtual data they already have. Early track inspections by the FIA revealed that the abrasiveness of the circuit is rather low, therefore, Pirelli has allocated the medium and soft tyres.

For its home Grand Prix, Promotional Partner Interproteccion has increased its engagement with the Sauber F1 Team. In addition to Interproteccion’s branding on the drivers’ seat-belts, its logo will be visible on the cockpit headrest as well as on the pit stop crew’s helmets during the Mexican Grand Prix.
