Competition Porsche signs Campbell for Bathurst
Competition Motorsports has made a last-minute addition to its Bathurst 12 Hour driving roster, signing emerging Porsche star Matt Campbell.
The US-based squad, set to field a GT3-spec Porsche at Bathurst with help from Australian team McElrea Racing, had already confirmed a driver line-up consisting of Porsche aces Marc Lieb and Patrick Long, along with Los Angeles-based Aussie David Calvert-Jones.
That line-up has now been expanded, the team adding mega talent Campbell to its roster.
“Matt is super-talented, super-fast and it is great that he has become available at the last minute to strengthen what is already a very strong line up in the Pro/Am class,” Calvert-Jones said.
“Who knows, now we might go for outright victory!”
Queenslander Campbell is one of Australia’s fastest rising stars, having backed up winning the Carrera Cup title last year by then taking out the Porsche Junior Programme prize in Europe (and the Supercup drive for 2017 that comes with it).
He has also bagged one of the best endurance seats in Supercars, having been signed to partner Shane van Gisbergen in the Red Bull Holden Racing Team Commodore at Sandown, Bathurst, and the Gold Coast.
“I can’t wait to be able to race at the iconic Mount Panorama circuit with the calibre of talent that Competition Motorsports has been able to put together,” added Campbell.
“It is a great honour for me to be part of the Porsche family and I have been very fortunate to be given some fantastic opportunities that have allowed me to progress my career year on year.
“I see this as one of those opportunities and I can’t wait to get to The Mountain, get on track and make sure we can do whatever we can to finish on the podium.”
