Hungary for success
Reigning British Touring Car Independent Champion James Nash is looking forward to this coming weekend’s World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) races at the Hungaroring, near Budapest.
In fact, the meeting can’t come quick enough for the Team Aon Ford Focus driver who is keen to put behind him an ultimately unrewarding race meeting at the Slovakiaring this past weekend.
In Slovakia Nash put the all-new Ford Focus in the top four in all practice and Qualifying sessions. It was unfortunate then that he wasn’t able to complete even a single racing lap after he crashed on the opening lap of race one following a push from another and damaged his car too severely to be repaired in time for race two.
The Hungaroring will be new to Nash and Team Aon. Nevertheless, Nash is hoping time in the simulator later this week together with a track walk on Friday will offset some of the obvious disadvantage.
James Nash: “I think that we proved in Slovakia that we’re making good progress with the development of the new Ford Focus. We were quick in all of the sessions but when it came to performing in the races our luck was clearly out.”
“It was no co-incidence I think that the new-to-the-WTCC Slovakiaring was the first time this season that we had arrived at a track that nobody else had previous year’s data to guide them.“
“While the Hungaroring will redress the previous status quo to a degree, I am buoyed by the pace we drew from the car in Slovakia. We’re due I think a change for the better in our race fortunes and I am even more determined than usual to secure a good pair of results.”
