A Consistent Line Opens Seattle Qualifying in Fourth

With only fifteen Pro Stock Cars on the entry list for the NHRA Northwest Nationals in Kent, Wash., every racer was assured of making Sunday’s final eliminations field. However, there was still a spirited battle at the top of the field, with four racers challenging for the coveted No. 1 position and the first-round bye that would come with it.

Among those contending for the top rung was Summit Racing driver Jason Line, who made two passes in the 6.54-second range, highlighted by his 6.547-second, 211.03 mph pass in the less-preferred right hand lane in the evening session.

Although this effort placed him fourth, with only six thousandths of a second separating him from his teammate and provisional No. 1 qualifier Greg Anderson, Line looked forward to improving his standing even further during one of his final attempts on Saturday.

“After struggling in qualifying on Friday in Sonoma, it’s great to have my hot rod back,” said Line. “My Summit Racing Pontiac ran really well today, and even though we didn’t make a great run tonight, it was pretty good for that lane, so we’re still pretty happy with it. I’m looking forward to going back in that left lane tomorrow to see what we can do, because I’d certainly like to grab that No. 1 spot and the first-round bye. All in all, it was a good day.”
