Tough race for Truex at Pheonix

Ryan Truex and the No. 83 Borla Exhaust Toyota Camry team finished in the 35th position at Phoenix International Raceway on Sunday afternoon. After spending the race fine-tuning the handling of their Toyota Camry, Truex was able to avoid any trouble on the track to bring home a solid finish.

Truex rolled off 34th for The Profit on CNBC 500 at Phoenix International Raceway. During the opening laps, Truex called into his BK Racing team to report the car mishandling around the one-mile oval. After closer observation, the team diagnosed the splitter making contact with the racing surface on fresh tires and after restarts and decided to add a spring rubber during their opening pit stop of the afternoon.

The Borla Exhaust team spent the rest of the day working on the balance of their Toyota Camry while ensuring that the car both handled well and the splitter avoided contact with the track surface. With the leaders setting a blistering pace and few caution periods to regroup the field, Truex worked hard to maintain his track position. By the time the checkered flag waved, Truex was scored in the 35th position.

"I feel like our Borla Exhaust team made progress today working on our communication," commented Truex. "We had a lot of conversation back and forth about how our car handled and changes that I needed made. It was a good experience for us to learn how to communicate with each other, and we were able to get a better understanding of each other. I think it will help us a lot, not only as we go into Vegas next weekend, but throughout the entire race season."

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will continue its west coast tour with a stop at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the Kobalt 400 on Sunday, March 9.
