Indy Lights: Jones going for four straight

Rookie driver hopes to take it to the field at Barber.

Following his third victory in as many races, Ed Jones heads to Barber Motorsports Park for the Legacy Indy Lights 100, April 25-26, hoping to continue his 100 percent race win streak this weekend.

Jones, who is making his debut in the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires series this year, wasn’t really expecting to find victory circle at all this season and certainly not in the first three races. The 20-year-old enters this double-header weekend with 96 points, 26 points ahead of his closest rival, Spencer Pigot

Last month at the pre-season test at Barber Motorsports Park, Jones topped the speed charts on the 2.3-mile, 17-turn road course. Driving the No. 11 Toys for Boys Miami/ United Rivers – Carlin machine, the United Arab Emirates driver was over a second quicker than his Carlin team-mate, who was runner-up.

"I'm looking forward this weekend to our first road course race of the year," said Jones. "We have had a dream start to the first two rounds taking all three wins. However it is going to be interesting to see how our performance compares here. The weather forecast gives the impression of mixed conditions which will add another factor to the equation. Nevertheless at the pre season test in the wet we were extremely fast so we have a lot of confidence for whatever comes."

'Fantastic start'

Jones has had a fantastic start to his American racing career. He dominated the season-opener at St. Petersburg by winning both races from pole, setting a new qualifying lap record and finishing the second race over nine seconds ahead of runner-up Jack Harvey. He made the switch to Indy Lights and the USA at the beginning of the year after becoming the youngest winner of the Euro F3 Open Championship in 2013. Last year, despite missing three races mid-season races due to back injury, he still earned two podium finishes in the FIA European Formula 3 Championship with Carlin.

Race 1 of the Legacy Indy Lights 100 will be at 3:50 p.m. ET on April 25th with Race 2 at 1:10 p.m. ET on April 26th. There will be live commentary and timing and scoring for all session on the Road to Indy TV app.
