IMSA Daytona 24

Rolex 24 hits quarter mark and Ganassi runs 1-2

Many teams have had issues thus far, but one of them is not Chip Ganassi Racing.

The fourth, fifth, and sixth hours were much calmer than the three that preceeded. The Risi Ferrari had a scary moment in turn one, spinning out of control, but Fisichella just barely kept it out of the barrier.

Many cars return to the race

The No. 31 and No. 50 DPs also returned to the track, with Max Papis saying that the Whelen Corvette was sidelined due to a steering box issue. The AMR No. 98 also returned, but not after losing a considerable amount of time.

The No. 97 Turner BMW finished up driveline repairs and returned to the track, over 100 laps down and in last place. Jordan Taylor, talking of the many incidents early, "there's a few guys out there who really don't know what they're doing, not to be mean ... It's kind of scary."

The No. 49 AF Corse Ferrari fell off the pace and went to the garage as well, returning after losing 20 laps. The No. 52 Oreca had another off itself, but got it turned around and escaped the grass.

Krohn and Magnus have issues

As we neared the end of the sixth hour, two teams of note encountered problems. Andy Lally slowed on the apron and eventually stopped, forcing the fourth full-course caution with his No. 44 Magnus Racing Porsche. Andy hinted earlier that there was a gearbox issue developing on the car, and it appears to have worsened. The team is working to repair the car nonetheless.

The Krohn Racing Ligier then came into the pits smoking with an oil pressure problem, according to Alex Brundle. A visually upset Alex made his way to the hauler after debriefing with the team.
