MSA Formula champion Norris eyes Formula Renault for 2016

Norris, 15, was the European Champion in karts in 2013, following it up with the World Championship title in 2014 - and has now secured a crown in his first year in single-seaters.

Having also contested part-time campaigns in the ADAC and Italian Formula 4 series, the former yielding six podiums in eight races, he will now look to progress onto the international scene, moving up from F4 level.

"The goal is probably Formula Renault," Norris told Motorsport.com after winning the MSA Formula crown. "It's that or Formula Renault and [guest outings in] F3.

"[The Eurocup] is the route we're doing down at the moment, it could change, but that's what it'll likely be next year."

The Eurocup is likely to be Renault Sport's flagship single-seater series in 2016, having been handed Formula Renault 3.5's support slot at the Monaco Grand Prix after the manufacturer withdrew its support of the latter series.

Norris' current team Carlin does not race in the series, albeit the 2016 list of teams has yet to be unveiled.

Despite his first-year successes in single-seaters, Norris said that he has not yet had contact with F1 teams over any junior programme spots.

"There has been no contact that I'm aware of, I don't think," he said. "Obviously, if they did [come calling], that'd be awesome. I'll wait - but we'll go as far as we can."

Securing championship a week after huge crash

Norris clinched the inaugural MSA Formula title with a race to spare exactly a week since ending up upside-down in the gravel after an ADAC F4 clash with teammate David Beckmann at Hockenheim.

Beckmann and Norris battled for the lead and eventually made contact, with Norris launched off the back of his teammate's car and heading into the gravel, where his F4 machine rolled twice.

He was extricated from his car and placed in an ambulance, but escaped major injury and went on to compete at Brands in MSA Formula, where he won the first race lights-to-flag and then wrapped up the title in Race 2.

"It was a bit difficult, I struggled a bit with a few injuries - couple of bruises, basically," Norris recalled.

" I did recover slightly and I wasn't feeling 100% coming into the weekend but as we went on, I just felt better and better, more confident - and then obviously everything paid off."
