Rosberg not worried over engine failures deciding title

Rosberg has suffered a number of mechanical issues throughout his Mercedes stint, including an ERS failure that denied him an outside chance at the championship in Abu Dhabi in 2014 - but he has been largely unaffected this year.

Instead, it's his teammate Lewis Hamilton who's experienced the brunt of the issues, the Briton's recent engine blow-up at Sepang leaving Rosberg 23 points in the clear with five races to go.

Asked whether he was worried that the title race could swing back in Hamilton's favour through mechanical issues, Rosberg said: "I’m not worried. I have learned to put my energy into things I can influence, and that is something I definitely can't influence.

"I also have all the trust in the team to do the best they can to make sure problems like that don't happen again - and they have come up with certain changes for this weekend here. 

"Am I worried it will decide the championship? No. That's all very far away."

On whether he felt fortunate to have avoided the issues that have affected his teammate's campaign, Rosberg said: "Usually it will average out over the season, probably.

"I don't think too much about Lewis' misfortune. I think more about my situation. It [Sepang] was a pretty tough day in general."

Rosberg did, however, concede that he was wary of Hamilton drawing extra motivation from the Sepang issue.

Asked whether he was encouraged to see Hamilton rattled, he said: "I don't draw encouragement from that, no.

"Always I know that Lewis, when he was difficulties like that, he will come back fully motivated. So it's not very encouraging, knowing that he is going to come back as strong as ever."
