Kvyat shrugs off embarrassing out-lap testing shunt

Red Bull's Russian newcomer forced to run remainder of test with no front wing due to lack of spares.

Daniil Kvyat remained philosophical about his mistake during his first day of Formula One testing with the Red Bull team at Jerez.

The Russian, taking over from teammate Daniel Ricciardo for the second day of running at the Spanish track, made an error during his first lap of the day and damaged the front wing of the RB11.

As the team had no spares, they were forced to spend the remaining part of the session running without a front wing, which compromised their program.

Schoolboy error on his first day

Kvyat, in his first day of running with Red Bull after graduating from Toro Rosso, said there was nothing he could do but move on from the error and try to make up for it when he returns to the cockpit on Wednesday.

"These things happen and they happened in the wrong moment," said the Russian at the end of the session. "It hadn't happened for a while, and it happened today, so we had to change our plans and we had to work with what we had."

"I've had bigger mistakes than that, but that's something that unfortunately happens and you just have to turn the page and look forward to the last day of testing where I can make it up for the team and for myself."

Bottom of the times

Kvyat, who finished at the bottom of the times, said 'many factors' had caused him to make the mistake. "There was this and that, and the cold tyres. I was going very slowly, but sometimes it's not even enough.

You don't spin every day on the out-lap." The Red Bull driver refused to be downbeat, however, and said the day had been somewhat productive despite the issues. "It was too early to be frustrated," he said. "These things happen and I think it holds us slightly back, but even the rain at least didn't make the day fully dry so somehow it covered it up slightly.

"Nevertheless we still were looking for something more today. "We did the things that we find useful to do. We had to do something that we could do without the front wing, basically. I think we got them done quite well and hopefully it will be beneficial for us in the future." Teammate Ricciardo returns to the car tomorrow.
