De La Rosa beats Alonso... In LEGO Challenge

Ferrari Third Driver Pedro De La Rosa got one over his colleague Fernando Alonso in Budapest on Thursday when he completed a Lego challenge in 2m:45.44, almost ninety seconds faster than Alonso.

Ferrari's long term partner Shell has worked in conjunction with Ferrari and LEGO to produce six limited edition pieces based on iconic vehicles of the Prancing Horses’ history, covering cars throughout its prestigious life away from the racing circuit.

Included are classics such as the 150 Italia and the F40, as are more recent models in the form of the 458 Italia and the extremely rare FXX.

At this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix members of the Formula One world media have been invited by Shell to take part in their Shell LEGO Challenge.

Throughout the weekend a competition is running for members of the media to construct a limited edition Ferrari F1 model in the quickest time.

And the contestant that tops the leaderboard on Sunday morning will receive an exclusive prize from LEGO, handed to them by Felipe Massa and Ferrari Test Driver Marc Gene, ahead of the Grand Prix.

“The Shell LEGO Challenge was a lot of fun; obviously there was a great deal of pressure to build the car as quickly as possible,” said Alonso. “It was a close contest, but Pedro got a great start and I wasn’t able to catch him to take pole on the Shell leader board grid.”

After day 1 the leaderboard looks like this:

Marko Trajković from Tempo 21 leads, de la Rosa (who has three children and clearly spends lots of time with them!) holds second spot, closely followed by Russell Batchelor from XPB Images, one JA on F1's two photographic partners.
