Lausitzring DTM: Green passes Wickens to win Race 2

Jamie Green triumphed in the second DTM race at the Lausitzring after an overtake on Robert Wickens, as five Audis finished in the top seven.

Polesitter Wickens led much of the race, holding a two-second gap over Green until his pitstop on Lap 15.

Green changed his tyres a lap later and, even though he rejoined ahead of the Mercedes driver, his cold tyres allowed Wickens to retake the lead with ease.

However, he was unable to rebuild his advantage, and Green went past him at the first corner after several laps of closely following the Canadian.

Green then quickly pulled away, and won by 6.3 seconds.

Wickens was overtaken by Mattias Ekstrom seven laps later, the Swede pitting at the end of the first lap from eighth on the grid, and emerging third when all the pitstops panned out.

He even closed in on Green at the end of the race, and only started to lose time at the very end, with his car stopping on track after crossing the chequered flag.

Wickens kept Mercedes stablemate Gary Paffett at bay to take the final podium position.

Mike Rockenfeller used the same strategy Ekstrom did to secure fifth from 11th on the grid, making up significant ground on Wickens and Paffett at the end.

Nico Muller and Rene Rast brought further two Audis into the top seven, after passing top BMW driver Maxime Martin.

BMW endured a difficult day with Martin and Marco Wittmann becoming its only pointscorers in eighth and ninth respectively.

Wittmann was 10th behind Lucas Auer before his stop, but managed to beat the Austrian to the spot by pitting 12 laps later and having fresher tyres.

Championship leader Auer had to settle for 10th from 15th on the grid.

Front-row starter Tom Blomqvist received a five-second time penalty for jumping the start.

He held second after the start but was demoted by Green and Paffett before fading away after his stop, and finished up 17th.
