Ginetta enters Williams tie-up for LMP1 project

The Leeds-based firm revealed in January its intention to create a new car to compete in the privateer LMP1 category of the FIA World Endurance Championship from next year, with aerodynamics designed by renowned designer Adrian Reynard.

Now Ginetta has confirmed that the new prototype will be tested in the Williams wind tunnel as part of a new alliance with WAE, which will be working alongside Reynard’s Auto Research Centre.

A statement said “a number of CFD runs have already taken place”, while the “aerodynamics element of the project” will begin in June.

“We are thrilled to be working with Williams on the aerodynamics elements of the Ginetta LMP1 project,” said Ginetta technical director Ewan Baldry.

“They have an impressive facility, which can run the Ginetta LMP1 model at a full range of ride heights, roll angles and yaw position.

“It’s fantastic to know the Ginetta LMP1 has the opportunity to be tested in the same wind tunnel which has helped Williams win multiple F1 titles.”

Ginetta has committed to creating an initial batch of 10 chassis to be sold on to privateer outfits, with LMP2 squad Manor becoming the first to state its intention to run the new car.
