NASCAR announces technical update for top three divisons

NASCAR modified rules for its top three tours on Wednesday.

In the Sprint Cup Series, under the Vehicle and Driver Safety Specifications, rules for crush panel locations were clarified with the following updates:

Rule 20.3.4.3.3 INNER REAR WHEEL WELLS

.a The inner rear wheel wells must be constructed of magnetic sheet steel with a minimum thickness of 0.027 inch.

.b Holes and/or other modifications that were made with the intent of weight reduction will not be permitted.

.c The inner rear wheel wells must conform to the following drawing:

Rule 20.4.17.10 TRUNK REAR CRUSH PANEL

.a A trunk rear crush panel must be used 

.b The trunk rear crush panel must conform to the following drawing:

Rule 20.4.17.5 FRONT FENDER CRUSH PANELS

.a A left and right side front fender crush panel must be used.

Rule 20.4.17.9 REAR WHEEL WELL CRUSH PANELS

.a A left and right side rear wheel tub crush panel must be used.

Rule 20.4.18 ROCKER PANEL EXTENSIONS

.a Rocker panel extensions must conform to the following drawing:

 

NASCAR technical update

The sanctioning body introduced new sections in the Xfinity Series Rulebook outlining Front and Rear Brake Cooling Assemblies (Rule 20.15.2.1, 20.15.2.2) and updated the parameters for Front Brake Cooling Fans (Rule 20.15.2.3.1) and Rear Brake Cooling Fans (Rule 20.15.2.3.2) using a right-side rear window NACA duct on oval tracks over 1.3-miles in length. A similar rule was instituted earlier in the Sprint Cup Series. 

NASCAR also released minimum heights for tailgates in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series

On Superspeedways, the pre-race minimum rear height 46.31 - 47.31 inches on the left and 47.31 - 48.31 inches on the right. Post-races heights are a minimum of 46.06 inches on the left, 47.06 inches on the right. 

For road Courses, both sides of the tailgate must measure 44.38-46.38 inches in pre-race, 44.38-46.88 inches in post-race.

At Bristol Motor Speedway, Dover International Speedway and Eldora Raceway, tailgates before and after the race must measure 44.38 - 45.88 inches on the left and 45.38 - 46.88 inches on the right. 

On all other tracks, the minimum pre-race tailgate measurement is 44.38 - 45.38 inches on the left and 45.38 - 46.38 right. Post-race left-side measurement is 44.38 - 45.88 and 45.38 - 46.88 inches on the right.
