Sir Patrick Head co-founded Williams Grand Prix Engineering Ltd in 1977, having met Sir Frank Williams at the Wolf-Williams F1 team in 1976. The small, ambitious team ran an off-the-shelf March for Patrick Neve in selected 1977 races while Head began work on his first, compete F1 car - the Williams FW06. Here he talks to Peter Windsor about those early days and why he didn't build a ground-effect car until 1979
