Rosberg confident Monaco woes were a one-off
Nico Rosberg is confident his struggles in the Monaco Grand Prix were a one-off caused by a unique set of circumstances, rather than an ongoing problem that might derail his world championship bid.
The German struggled for pace in the wet opening phase of the race – and was told to move aside for team-mate Lewis Hamilton, whose pace was much faster.
Analysis of what went wrong has pointed to Rosberg's dramas being caused by a negative spiral of low brake and tyre temperatures, leaving him unable to push the car, which in turn led to a further drop-off in temperatures.
The work has left Rosberg upbeat that he can hit back with a good result in Montreal now that he has a better understanding of what happened.
“We have looked through everything for sure, and the conclusion was it was a lot of smallish things that came together,” he said in Canada.
“Monaco is the most penalising track for having such issues and a difficult result came out of it. But many, many things went wrong.
“From one thing you get a lack of feel and a lack of confidence, which makes me hold back a bit more, then a lack of tyre temperatures. And it's a spiral like that. Everything went wrong that day.
“But it is positive that they have got them all out of the way and there are only good things to come now.”
"A thing of the past"
Speaking about how he felt heading in to Montreal, Rosberg said: “I am feeling great. I'm not dwelling on one race.
"You will always have those races in racing, and for me now it is already completely a thing of the past. I am feeling great and looking forward to a good weekend.”
He added: “It was a difficult race but I don't then lose morale or anything. I am pushing. I know it is the way it is. Some days are like that. It is not the first or last one, I keep going.”
