Max Verstappen revisits "super chaotic" 2024 Brazil GP win: "One of my best races"

Max Verstappen has reflected on his 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix victory, describing the chaotic wet-weather race as one of the best drives of his F1 career

As Max Verstappen recounted his sensational victory at the 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix, he branded the wet-weather performance as one of the best drives of his Formula 1 career so far.

The Dutchman put on a wet-weather masterclass after a frustrating qualifying session left him lining up on the grid in P17. "A bit of bad luck in qualifying, which meant that I had to start quite far back," he said during a YouTube video for F1, reacting to 10 races from his 10 years at Red Bull.

"Plus, the little penalty that we had for I don't even know what we changed, but we did change something, so we had to slide even further back."

Despite the disappointing starting position, the rainfall presented exactly the sort of conditions the Red Bull driver excels in.

"Wet race. I like wet races, but it was just super chaotic when it's a wet race, especially around Sao Paulo," Verstappen continued. "But I also knew that I had to make my way forward for the championship."

Verstappen began to make his way back through the grid before the race was red-flagged due to the conditions. This played perfectly into his strategy.

"Lap after lap, we're moving forward. The rain was coming down again. So, it was making it very difficult to drive to a point where there was a red flag because it was getting quite dangerous," the 28-year-old said.

"With the red flag, it really gave us an opportunity to win that race. Definitely one of my best races, I think ever, and especially when it was needed for the championship. So, really good memories."

Verstappen went on to clinch his fourth drivers' championship in 2024, finishing the season with 437 points, 63 points over McLaren's Lando Norris in second.
