Button says no decision on F1 future yet
Jenson Button said on Thursday that he had no news about his future yet, despite speculation suggesting he would announce his retirement from Formula 1 this weekend.
"I can't give you anything else since the last race," said Button in Thursday's press conference in Japan.
"There is no more information to give you, you are going to have to wait a bit.
"We are in good talks, the team and myself. That is it.
"We are here to concentrate on this weekend, it is a big weekend, McLaren-Honda in front of Honda's home circuit, we hope we have a good weekend," the Briton added.
Button, who does not have a contract with his McLaren team for next year, insisted his future remained open.
"There are so many possibilities of what can happen next year," he said. "So many possibilities...
"I can't go any further with my comments on that. But I will be happy next year, that is the important thing."
The Briton, the world champion in 2009, also clarified comments made after the Singapore Grand Prix, where he said the "joy" of F1 was gone for him.
He insisted what he is missing is competing near the front.
"I think it was worded slightly differently than that," Button said today.
"I don't think any driver has joy when not fighting for victories. It is the challenge of fighting at the front and the possibility of fighting at the front.
"I don't like finishing 14th or finishing 10th, that is not what gives me joy or excites me, but there are so many things that if they work in your favour or you see a future, then there is the possibility of joy coming back.
"After the Singapore GP I wasn't joyful."
