Lausitz DTM: Green defies DRS problem for second win

From his surprise pole position, Audi's Miguel Molina led Green, Edoardo Mortara, Mattias Ekstrom, the leading BMW of Maxime Martin – who made a bold outside lunge into the first corner to gain two places – and the top Mercedes of Robert Wickens.

Green was in DRS range by lap four, but when it became available his rear wing mechanism didn't work. Despite this, he kept the pressure on Molina in the opening stages, his team reassuring him on the radio that his speed was good regardless.

Ekstrom likewise hounded Mortara for third, with Martin hovering in fifth until he began to drop away in the middle stages of the race.

Pascal Wehrlein's Mercedes passed Wickens for sixth on lap 13, in what appeared to be a team orders move, while Green continued to hound Molina up front – despite his lack of DRS.

Green made an aggressive lunge past Molina at Turn 1 on lap 25, and once in the lead he disappeared up the road for his second win of the year. "It worked when I went to the grid," he said. "There was no point in getting angry about it, I just had to pass him."

Mortara repeated Green’s move a lap later – aided by working DRS – and Ekstrom did likewise on the following tour, as Molina appeared to be struggling with the functionality of his DRS and slipped to fourth.

Green scampered away to win, ahead of Mortara and Ekstrom.

Wehrlein passed Martin for fifth in a few laps remaining, but had nothing for the legion of Audis ahead of him.

Wickens mugged Martin for sixth, with the Frenchman just holding off Timo Scheider’s Audi.
