Top drifter Frederic Aasbo tears through LA

Formula Drift is one of the most exciting enterprises in modern motorsports and Norwegian driver Fredric Aasbo, the runner-up in Formula Drift this year and winner of the 2014 Formula Drift Asia title, is a great ambassador for the sport, for his Papadakis Racing team and for Team Scion.

To showcase the precision driving of Aasbo and the capabilities of his Scion tC, Papadakis Racing and Aasbo just released a short video, presented by Scion Racing, Motegi Racing and Hankook Tire. Called #DreamrideLA, the five-minute video features young actor Dillon Bryant Akers, who discovers the Scion under wraps on an embankment along the Los Angeles river and is rewarded with an amazing ride that encompasses both streets of LA and the wonderful circuit Streets of Willow at Willow Springs Raceway near Edwards Air Force base.

An intense, professionally filmed video

Once Papadakis and Aasbo decided to make this video, they decided to give it more of a plot than some of the customary tire-wasting videos we’ve seen on computer. They enlisted director Michael Tiddes, a feature film director whose screen credits include A Haunted House.

“So many of the drifting videos focus on technique of the stunts and the technical aspects of the car,” Papadakis noted. “In #DreamrideLA the driving is amazing and the Scion tC is definitely front-and-center, but we also wanted to spotlight the experience. This video is personal and we hope that resonates with fans.”

Papadakis began building his reputation in the 1990s with the first front-wheel-drive, tube-chassis drag racing car in the United States. He moved to drift in 2005 and has led his team to two Formula Drift championship titles in 2007-8 and runner-up finishes in both 2010 and this past year with Aasbo.
