Successful Dakar testing for ALDO Racing in England
The ALDO Racing team tested their brand new Desert Warrior 3 on the test track used by Range Rover to test their vehicles off-road.
Rockingham (England) – The Montreal-based ALDO Racing team achieved its goals in England this week, running their brand new Desert Warrior 3 on the test track used by Range Rover to test their vehicles off-road. This full-scale test was in preparation for the 14-day Dakar Rally, the toughest off-road event in the world, run in the desert of Argentina and Chile this coming January.
The ALDO Racing team tested this past Tuesday and Wednesday to validate a major update to the steering system, as well as the various smaller changes made to car after its last outing this past July in the Spanish Baja Aragon race.
Team manager and co-driver Patrick Beaulé from Montreal was more than happy with the results of the 2-day test. “The new steering system performed flawlessly over both test days on the quick, short and rough track used by the famous British manufacturer.
The alterations made by Paul Round from Rally Raid UK worked to perfection and the preparation work done by Yvan Turcotte and his assistant from YTR Motorsport was outstanding. On top of that, we also got time to simulate a typical racing suspension/steering failure and have the driver and co-driver fix it using only the parts and tools carried aboard the DW3 racer during a race!”
Chief mechanic Yvan Turcotte was also happy with the results: “I was a bit nervous as I am now responsible for race preparation of the car, so the whole team is glad that we got through the test without any problems. This reliability gave us more time to develop alternative suspension settings for more comfort over the very rough tracks at the upcoming Dakar.”
The car now goes back to the new ALDO Racing workshop in England, for a complete teardown and rebuilt to final race specifications before it departs from Le Havre (France) in November, on its way to Argentina for the start of the Dakar in early January.
