Live minute-by-minute commentary for the French Grand Prix as MotoGP visit the iconic Bugatti Circuit in Le Mans

Start action

The iconic Bugatti Circuit in Le Mans will host the fifth round of the 2026 MotoGP season.

Ducati star Francesco Bagnaia will start the French Grand Prix from pole position, with championship leader Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia) and Fabio di Giannantonio (VR46) joining him on the front row.

Reigning MotoGP champion Marc Marquez will not take part in the race after injuring his foot in a nasty crash on Saturday. He returned to Spain last night and is due to get surgery later today.

That concludes Motorsport.com's live coverage of the French GP. But don't go anywhere, we will continue to bring live updates and news straight from the Le Mans paddock throughout the day.

In the end, home heroes Quartararo and Zarco finished sixth and 11th respectively. For Yamaha, this is its best grand prix result of the year.

Celebrations are under way in Aprilia's camp. Rivola gives a hug to Martin, exactly a year after Martin told the Aprilia management that he wanted to extricate himself from their contract.

Intra-Aprilia battle

Just one point separates Bezzecchi and Martin in the riders' championship, with the former leading the standings by the narrowest of margins.

Di Giannantonio managed to nick fourth place from Acosta on the final lap. But that would hardly be a consolation for him or Ducati on a day Aprilia annihilated the competition

It's worth noting that this is Ogura's maiden podium in MotoGP. We haven't had a Japanese rider on the podium since Katsuyuki Nakasuga finished second in Valencia 2012.

Aprilia 1-2-3

It has taken longer than it should, but Aprilia has finally secured a 1-2-3 result for the first time in MotoGP history!

Jorge Martin wins!

He has done it! After starting seventh on the grid, Jorge Martin charged through the field to win the French Grand Prix. It's his first GP win since 2024 and first as an Aprilia rider!

Final lap

Martin starts the final lap. The battle for the fourth place is on, with Diggia having closed in on Acosta.

Lap 26/27

Bezzecchi has no answer to Martin, who is pulling away at the front. Bezzecchi may be leading the championship, but this performance is a statement of intent.

New leader!

After following Bezzecchi for the entire 25th lap, Martin passes Bezzecchi on the inside at Turn 3 to snatch the lead. He is on course for a double win (after qualifying eighth)

Lap 24/27

Martin is charging and victory is no longer out of his sight. He is now just four tenths behind Bezzecchi.

Aprilia podium lockout?

Ogura has gradually worked his way towards the front and has now passed Acosta's KTM for P3. If the positions remain the same, this would be the first time Aprilia has locked out the top-three

Lap 22/27

The gap between Bezzecchi and Martin is now down to eight tenths. This battle isn't just for the race victory. It's about the championship.

Joan Mir has crashed (again). Shortly after grabbing sixth place from Quartararo, he has lost his Honda in the final sector. Marini is now Honda's highest-placed rider in 10th.

Lap 20/27

Zarco isn't enjoying his home race. He has lost a place to Binder, who started on the last row, and is back down to P13.

Lap 19/27

And Mir finally finds a way past Quartararo for what is now P6.

Meanwhile, at the front, the gap between the two Aprilias is down to one second. Eight laps still to run.

Lap 18/27

And Martin goes through on Acosta into the first chicane. But he now faces a 1.6s deficit to Bezzecchi. Game on.

Lap 17/27

With Bagnaia out, Martin is right on the tail of Acosta. We might be on course for another Aprilia 1-2.

In fact, if Martin can pass Acosta, he might be able to challenge his team-mate Bezzecchi for victory.

Double DNF for Ducati

It's all over for Bagnaia. While under pressure from Acosta, he dumps his Ducati at Turn 3. Ducati's factory team will score zero points on Sunday.

Lap 15/27

Aprilias are looking strong at this stage. Bezzecchi has pulled out a lead of nine tenths over Bagnaia, who is now coming under pressure from Acosta.

This has brought Martin in play, with the Spaniard now just six tenths behind. He has closed the gap by a full second.

Lap 14/27

Quartararo and Mir are battling for seventh place in the battle of the Japanese giants.

And for those who are wondering, Zarco hasn't made any progress and is still circulating in 13th place, behind the factory Honda of Marini.

Lap 13/27

After his little off-track excursion, Ai Ogura is back in the game. He has closed back in on di Giannantonio, who has had an unusually low-key weekend so far.

Lap 12/27

Bezzecchi has responded to Bagnaia's pace, but the gap has remained relatively stable at six tenths in the last few laps.

Lap 11/27

We have the second retiree of the race. Diogo Moreira has crashed out in sector 2. Yellow flags are out.

Lap 10/27

Jorge Martin has cleared Fabio di Giannantonio for fourth. But with Pedro Acosta running 1.7s clear, a podium charge appears unlikely.

Lap 9/27

Bezzecchi's lead is now down to six tenths. Bagnaia and Acosta are closing in on him.

Lap 8/27

Quartararo has slipped to sixth place, behind di Giannantonio and Martin. Ogura also came close to overtaking him but made a mistake and ran wide

Lap 7/27

And as we expected, Bagnaia has passed Acosta. The Italian sent his Ducati up the inside into Turn 3 to snatch second position. Next target is Bezzecchi, but he is circulating nine tenths in front.

Lap 6/27

Bagnaia has passed Quartararo and is now up to third place. He may have made a slow start, but he is now right on the rear of Acosta's KTM. Don't write him off just yet.

Here is why reigning French GP winner Zarco lost several places on lap 1

Order on lap 4

  1. Bezzecchi
  2. Acosta
  3. Quartararo
  4. Bagnaia
  5. Di Giannantonio
  6. Martin
  7. Ogura
  8. Mir
  9. Bastianini
  10. Fernandez
  11. Aldeguer
  12. Marini
  13. Zarco
  14. Binder
  15. Miller

Acosta has passed Quartararo and is now consolidating second place. Bezzecchi continues to lead, but hasn't been able to check out yet.

Alex Marquez is out of the race. The Gresini rider crashes at the start of lap 2.
