Bob Power, father of two-time IndyCar champion Will Power, was involved in a frightening incident in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia, this week.

A 39-year-old suspect led police on a multi-day pursuit, which involved multiple armed carjackings. First, he took a Toyota Rav4 on April 4 in Newton before dumping it on the New England Highway, where he quickly stole another vehicle at gunpoint. The suspect took a Subaru Forester after firing his gun into the air. Not long after, he stole a SsangYong Musso and began heading west on Warrego Highway.

The following day, he stole a Toyota Land Cruiser after robbing a residence in Gormley Street, Lidcombe.

On April 6, the suspect's crime spree ended on Herries Street between Curzon and Cohoe Streets in Toowoomba, and he was apprehended around 12:50pm local time.

It was there where the suspect encountered Bob Power, who spoke with 7NEWS Australia about the tense moments before police arrived.

“I was wrestling with him a little bit, and I didn’t want him to get in the car,” recalled Power. “He had the shotgun pointed at me. I said, ‘don’t shoot me.’

“I opened the door up to get the dog out and then the police arrived and pounced on him.”

The elder Power was uninjured, and a shotgun was recovered at the scene.

“It saved the car and me. I was alright,” said Power.
