First Generation Concludes in France
The first generation of the GP2 Series has ended today at Circuit Paul Ricard, the circuit at which the series took its initial steps with its first development car more than three years ago. Today was the final time that the third and final incarnation of that car will be run in Europe, and the test ended with Andy Zuber coming to within hundredths of a second of setting new lap record. That honour, however remains with Jose Maria Lopez who set a 1:12.547 on the 3D track formation back in March 2006.
The final two days of the test saw Andy Zuber dominate much of the running for both FMS and Super Nova, with Pastor Maldonado at ART and Minardi Piquet Sports and Luca Filippi at Racing Engineering and Super Nova remaining as the other stand out drivers. Yesterday also saw GP2 Series history made as Simona de Silvestro became the first female driver to take part in a GP2 session.
After three thrilling years the GP2 Series now looks towards January and the beginning of a new era with the launch of the GP2 Asia Series, while in February 26 of the new GP2 / 08 car will run here at Circuit Paul Ricard for the first test of the 2008 season. <pre> Day Three Day Four
