NORFOLK'S HIGH-SPEED SNETTERTON CIRCUIT IS NEXT STOP FOR UK'S BIGGEST MOTOR RACING SERIES
There are now less than three weeks to go before Britain's premier motor racing series - the Dunlop British Touring Car Championship - arrives in Norfolk for the latest round of its 2010 season, at the high-speed Snetterton circuit on Sunday 8 August.
The event marks the start of the second half of the 2010 BTCC season after a seven-week summer break and all of the main protagonists know that Snetterton could prove crucial to their title hopes.
It's also the only opportunity this year that people will have to see the BTCC - followed by millions in the UK and worldwide - in action in East Anglia. A bumper crowd is therefore expected to attend what is truly a major sporting event for the region.
Currently it is old rivals and former champions Matt Neal and Jason Plato leading the way. Neal (Honda Racing Team) and Plato (Silverline Chevrolet) are separated by just eight points at the top of the table and there are plenty of other drivers capable of beating them.
Indeed, nine different drivers (Neal, Plato, Gordon Shedden, Tom Onslow-Cole, Tom Chilton, Steven Kane, Mat Jackson, Andrew Jordan and Fabrizio Giovanardi) in five different types of car (Honda Civic, Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus, BMW 320si and Vauxhall Vectra) have shared the victories in the 15 races to date in 2010. Adding further variety, other makes of car on the grid include SEAT and VW - giving the trackside crowds plenty to cheer on according to their favourites.
Many of the BTCC's teams and drivers will be at Snetterton later this week (Thursday 22 July) for a crucial day's testing to prepare their cars for August's big race day which is expected to produce three of the fastest races all season thanks to two ultra-long straights - one, at a kilometre in length, the longest in UK motor sport.
Race day at Snetterton on 8 August includes the latest three BTCC showdows of 2010 and a further nine races from the very best in saloon, sportscar and single-seater action (Ginetta Junior, Ginetta G50, Porsche Carrera, Renault Clio, Formula Renault and Heritage Touring Cars). What's more, the public will have open access to the paddock where they can rub shoulders with the stars of the BTCC, plus are invited into the Pit Lane Walkabout autograph session for another opportunity to meet the drivers and to grab plenty of great team give-aways.
Snetterton has also improved viewing for spectators with new banking overlooking the spectacular Bombhole-Coram corners which never fail to tempt incident and controversy.
Adult tickets can be purchased from just £24.00 if booked in advance on the www.snetterton.co.uk website or by calling the hotline 0870 950 9000. Admission for children aged 12 and under is FREE - making the event hugely attractive among families.
