A weekend of winning and weather for Bamboo in Monza
On Race 1 Alex MacDowall bring home Bamboo Engineering’s first ever driver championship podium and a win in the Yokohama Independents Trophy.

The opening rounds of this years World Touring Car Championship were held in Monza this weekend and Bamboo engineering had a clutch of podiums in some very tricky conditions, and say them come away first and second in the Yokohama Trophy and 5th and 8th in the Drivers Championship.
Bamboo Engineering left Monza very wet after torrential rainfall but celebrating an outright podium in race one courtesy of Alex MacDowall and 3 Independent podiums between Alex and James Nash.
James Nash started from 5th and after a fierce battle with the works Honda’s finished 7th in the overalls drivers standings and 2nd in the Yokohama Independents Trophy.
Race 2 saw the WTCC’s famous reverse grid putting James Nash on 5th and Alex 7th. Nash made a great start and got up to 4th before the might of the ex-manufacturer Chevrolets saw James finish in 7th again, 2nd in the Yokohama Independents Trophy.
Alex got away to a good start but was forced wide into the gravel seeing him drop to 16th, however when working his way up the field, a puncture brought his race to an end 1 lap before the end.
Alex MacDowall – “I’m delighted with my first podium in the WTCC, I love the rain, being British makes me somewhat of an expert in the wet. Race 1 was a nice clean affair but race 2 saw me start further down the field and that is where many of the tangles happen. Overall I’m satisfied with leaving Monza 5th in the driver standings.”
James Nash – “This weekend has been a bit of a baptism of fire for me, Monza is a very fast circuit for my first race in a Cruze, add bad weather to that and on one hand I’m relieved to come out leading the Yokohama Independents Trophy but there is still much more to come from me, roll on Marrakech.”
Richard Coleman – Chief Executive – Bamboo Engineering, “We have had a good outing in some challenging conditions. Alex truly deserved his podium place and leaving Monza 1,2 in the Yokohama Trophy is nice but the Drivers Championship is our real focus.”
The next 2 rounds of the WTCC will be held in Marrakech on the 6th and 7th April.
