On the road to the Moscow Raceway

After the trip from Monaco to Spa done in less than a week, the World Series by Renault family heads toward the farthest from home destination of the year: the Moscow Raceway. The voyage to Russia is a massive logistical endeavor, creating its share of challenges. Everything must be done perfectly in order for the participants in the Fast, Free & Fun event, proposed by Renault Sport Technologies, can offer an exceptional show to the Russian fans as has been the case since 2012.

The Moscow round of the World Series by Renault is a slightly different meeting than the six others of the season. An impressive logistic is put in place, as much for the participants as the organizers and their partners.

60 trucks transporting more than 1,500 metric tons of material and nearly 600 people are deployed by RPM Racing, through the teams, suppliers, organizers, television and the media, just to name a few! For its part, Oreca has five trucks containing 90 metric tons of equipment, while for the Renault Sport Show; Driving Evolution sends a truck loaded with 10 metric tons of materials for the five Mégane R.S.s that put in their on-track demonstration runs.

Respectively loaded to transport the race cars and historic vehicles, as well as the technical equipment and necessary decorations for the village, Marchal Technologies and Le Public Système hit the road with four and six semi-trailers. Leaving France on Monday 16 June, they arrived in Travemünde (Germany) two days later, before crossing the Baltic Sea by boat. Debarking in Liepaja in Latvia the next day, they crossed the Russian border last Saturday and will arrive at the circuit on Tuesday to finally begin the unloading of the 74,600kgs of material transported by the two companies!

And upon arrival, resources need to be replenished. And for that there is nothing better than France’s famous cream dessert, La Tarte Tropézienne and a staff of nine will look after the catering over the four-day meeting. More than 2000 meals and 580 meal trays will be served. The meeting at the Moscow Raceway poses a specific characteristic in that the two metric tons of food and drinks are purchased locally.

Importation, a word often repeated by the competitors. For the teams, the fluids are subjected to stresses unique to the calendar. The World Series by Renault is a sporting event and all the consumables are documented in the ATA Carnets. These customs forms are obtained following a meticulous inventory check from every team and supplier, where all the material in the trucks is listed in detail, stipulating the brand, country of fabrication, serial numbers and number of units.

A real headache for some very specific products, sometimes designed for purposes other than their real use! The border crossing also obliges the competitors to complete a “temporary material importation” form. Everything that has entered the country must leave, but the consumables, most notably the liquids, cannot leave once consumed.

During the weekend, the four Michelin trucks will have more than 1300 tyres to provide to the participants with a precise distribution between slicks and rain tyres for the two championships.

Following this rigorous planning of each participant, the third edition of the World Series by Renault at the Moscow Raceway can begin…before all of the competitors make the return trip towards the Nürburgring, for the next round 10 days later!
