Jani pledges to keep attacking despite healthy WEC points lead
Neel Jani says he and his teammates in the WEC points-leading #2 Porsche will not be content to cruise and collect for the rest of the season, despite their considerable championship advantage.

Ahead of this weekend's 6 Hours of Nurburgring race, Jani, Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb are 39 points clear of their nearest rivals – the #8 Audi crew – boosted by their recent victory in the Le Mans 24 Hours.
It’s an advantage that would allow the trio to finish second in each of the remaining six rounds of the championship and still be crowned champions.
But, despite their advantage, Jani says that the #2 team is still focused on winning races, and that their points cushion gives them more freedom to attack than their opponents.
Speaking to Motorsport.com, Jani quipped: “We’ll try to win the [Nurburgring] race, that’s our aim – because then we can win it [the title] early!
“We don’t want to be defensive, we will attack, and we can allow ourselves to attack while the others can’t afford another zero.
“We can, even if we score zero we still lead the championship. So we don’t have to be too defensive.”
Qualifying boost problem
Jani and Lieb qualified the #2 Porsche 919 Hybrid fourth at the Nurburgring after a session held in mixed conditions, and were hampered by a hybrid system issue that afflicted Lieb on his first lap.
That problem notwithstanding, the Swiss driver admitted that Audi, which locked out the front row, got the better of Porsche by staying out on a drying track for a lap longer before performing a driver change.
“Marc had a boost issue in the first lap, so he had to do a second lap and the peak of the tyre was gone,” said Jani.
“His second lap was decent but there were still a few wet patches around.
“Then we decided to take him out of the car immediately, because we didn’t know if it would rain soon.
"Audi opted to stay out for one more lap, which proved the best tactic.
“But we’re close, we saw with Webber going out again at the end and setting a purple sector [before making a mistake], we were there.”
