Falling to dead last a few laps into today’s race at Winton looked to have ruined Fabian Coulthard’s chance of maintaining his top ten Championship position but he mounted a great comeback.
The Lockwood Racing driver started ninth in today’s 200km race but was a victim of several aggressive moves and spun out on lap eight.
He recovered to finish 12th thanks to a strategy that maximised his tyre life and passing ability.
V8 Supercars will be on track from 13.00 tomorrow for qualifying before the 67-lap race (race 28) at 15.35.
Fabian Coulthard, Lockwood Racing: "Theoretically we came all the way from last and worked our way up into twelfth place so obviously our strategy worked.
"The car still isn’t good enough on its tyre but if we didn’t choose the strategy that we did we wouldn’t have moved forward.
“There are positives and negatives to take away with us from this weekend. We are still sitting in tenth spot in the championship but it could have been a better race. Unfortunately it wasn’t, so at least I didn’t go backwards in the championship.”
