Edwards dominates at Atlanta, Busch, Stenhouse Jr. finish 2nd & 3rd
Carl Edwards’ No. 60 Roush Fenway Racing Ford was in the first position at the drop of the green flag to start the Great Clips 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday night, and it was there when the checkered flag waved at the end of the race for the win.
“I can’t believe we got the pole and the win,” Edwards said. “What a great race!”

Kyle Busch finished second in the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was third in the No. 6 Roush Fenway Racing Ford.
“I hate it that we didn’t have enough under the hood to run with them,” Busch said.
Edwards dominated much of the event, but the race wasn’t perfect for the No. 60 team. He led the way until the first caution of the race came out on lap 42. Edwards not only lost the race off pit road to Busch, he also was penalized by NASCAR for dragging an air hose out of his pit stop and had to restart the race in the back.
Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick, driving the No. 33 car Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, jockeyed the lead back and forth and at times battled Edwards’ RFR teammates, Stenhouse and Trevor Bayne in the No. 16 Ford, at the front of the field.
Edwards made his way into the top three during pit stops on lap 70. By lap 95, he was back in the lead.
“This car was awesome,” No. 60 crew chief Mike Beam said of Edwards’ ability to make his way from the back to the front.
Lead laps cars began cycling through green flag pit stops with about 72 laps to go, but Edwards stayed out longer than everyone else, hoping to make the stop his last while everyone else would have to pit one more time.
That strategy flew out the window, though, as the yellow flag came out three more times to put everyone back on the same pit strategy to finish the race.
Harvick finished fourth, and Kasey Kahne rounded out the top-five in the No. 38 Turner Motorsports Chevrolet.
