DAYTONA BEACH - The WeatherTech Racing Porsche has been a fixture at the top of the running sheet since the drop of the green flag six hours ago at the GRAND-AM Rolex 24 Hour At Daytona. The team is currently in fourth position in GT.
Bleekemolen started the white and black Porsche from the seventh row in GT. The winner of the Dubai 24 Hour two weeks ago put in a triple stint to start the race.
"Half way through my run something was waving to me through the back window, it was a corner of the rear bumper that had come loose," Bleekemolen said. "Luckily the guys could just tear it off. No harm done. I never felt someone touch me, but I must have got tapped early in the race. Also at the start the shift lights stopped working. That affected me a little on the banking, because you want to shift at exactly the right moment. At the beginning a lot guys were really aggressive when they didn't need to be. We survived the start. During my third stint I was able to close the gap to the front cars. I was running with my friend Sean Edwards in the 30 car and we drafted around making up good time on those in front of us."
Bleekemolen handed the wheel to Porsche Factory Driver Marco Holzer just after the sun went down.
"The car feels good," Holzer said. "We seem to be losing a lot under braking to the other cars. It is tough when you get stuck behind some of the slower DP cars. Without the shift light, it makes it a little challenging. You just have to pay more attention to the rev limiter."
