Birmingham, (April 5, 2013) - Charles Espenlaub, driving the #48 Beverage Flavors International/ Fall-Line Motorsports BMW M3, put in a stellar performance today at Barber Motorsports Park during qualifying and earned Fall-Line's 3rd pole position ever in the GRAND-AM Continental Tires Sports Car Challenge series. Espenlaub broke the existing track record and will start tomorrow's race at the sharp end of the grid.
Teammate and co-driver this weekend, Al Carter, qualified the #45 car 3rd and team owner Mark Boden qualified the #46 car in 13th position.
Espenlaub was the favorite for the pole position today and he did not disappoint. The native Floridian qualified the car for the first time as he usually drives the second stint in the race. This weekend, however, Al Carter is sharing driving duties of the #48 (as well as the #45) and this recipe of Espenlaub starting and Carter finishing could prove to be a winning combination.
Speaking of Al Carter, he qualified the #45 car solidly in 3rd, just over three-tenths behind the #55 Aston Martin that has captured every pole position this season up until now. Carter is pulling double-duty this weekend, driving both the #48 car and the #45 with his usual partner Hugh Plumb. Plumb and Carter finished 3rdat last year's event with their first podium finish as a duo. The pair are in good shape for the race and the only thing to look our for with the #45 is when it's Carter and Plumb racing each other as they finish out their respective stints at the end of the race.
46 Mark Boden qualified 13thfor today's race but the #46 car is in good shape. Between limited track time due to weather, and getting held up on his flying lap, Boden ended up further down the grid that he had hoped. But, with a dependably quick BMW M3, Boden and co-driver Bryan Sellers are not concerned. Look for the #46 car to move steadily up through the field.
Espenlaub affirmed, "How cool is that?! Everybody at Fall Line deserves a pat on the back. The entire team has been working so hard and The Beverage Flavors International BMW M3 performed flawlessly. Getting the pole in the very competitive Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge is no small feat, and we look forward to the race tomorrow with a finish the same as the start."
Team Manager Michael Harvey was pleased with all three drivers' performances. He mentioned:
"It was a good day for the Fall-Line BMWs. I am really proud of my guys who have worked tirelessly over the past few months and I am confident we can turn today's performance into a good result tomorrow. A big thank you, as always, to Trim-Tex, the B+ Foundation, Eagle Technologies, and Beverage Flavors International for getting us here."
