Brumos hoping to duplicate last year’s Laguna Seca success

Jacksonville, FL: Last season as Brumos Racing bought its new GRAND-AM Rolex Series GT effort to its first competition at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, the team scored a critical win. That win was the culmination of a weekend dominated by Brumos as their #59 Porsche also took pole position and turned the fastest lap of the race. The victory was a major turning point, giving Brumos the lead of the 2011 GT championship they went on to claim. Before the dust had settled on the championship celebrations, Brumos was back at Laguna Seca for Porsche’s Rennsport Reunion IV, as drivers Andrew Davis and Leh Keen joined Hurley Haywood for some track time in a few of Brumos’ most historic Porsche racecars. Now, as the team prepares for their 2012 return, they are ready to recapture some Monterey magic and hoping for a repeat victory.

For Andrew Davis, the good memories are still strong. “Last year’s race at Laguna Seca played out like a dream,” he recalled. “The car was exceptionally balanced right out of the box and we improved throughout the practice sessions. It was truly a thrill to qualify the famous Brumos #59 on the pole, especially since it marked my first pole position as a Brumos driver. I have had mixed results at Laguna Seca in the past, so to win in such a convincing manner was really special and it remains the benchmark for what we are capable of as a team. Laguna Seca is also historically significant for Porsche, so I am proud to represent the marque at a location with so many Porsche owners and fans. Last fall, when Leh and I had the honor of participating in the Rennsport Reunion, it was amazing to drive around the track in the 1971 Porsche 914-6 that Hurley drove to claim the first IMSA Championship. All of those fond memories have me chomping at the bit to get back to Monterey and write a new chapter in Brumos history at Laguna Seca.”

While 2011 held many notable achievements for Leh Keen, he considered visiting Laguna Seca a highlight of that season, saying, “At Laguna, not only did we have one of the most dominating race weekends I have ever had, we also got to go back later as GT Champions and enjoy the track during Rennsport. Seeing all of those historic Brumos cars in one place was really special, but getting to drive some of them to represent Brumos was something I will never forget. To top it all off, when we are not at the track, the whole team really enjoys the chance to relax and enjoy the California coast. We have some great memories from last year, but we aren’t ready to rest on our laurels, and with the season wrapping up we are still looking for our first win. We have had multiple podium finishes, but that win has proven elusive. This year we are coming in with a bit more torque to climb the hills, and we have had a really fast car the last few races, so we should be better than ever. I feel that the time is here for Brumos to get back on the top step of the podium with another Laguna Seca win.”
