Trident Racing completes Bahrain weekend
Trident Racing rounded out its third run of the year in the 2012 GP2 Series today at the Al Sakhir track in Bahrain. The last race of the eastern stint of the championship was completed by both the team's drivers. Julian Leal ended up in 14th position, while Stéphane Richelmi completed the 23-lap distance in 17th.
The race of Julian and Stéphane was plagued by their starting position as well as from a first-corner contact that penalized all the following cars. After lap 1, the race proved pretty linear, with the middle stages marked by the progressive tire wear and an hard-fought finale.
Trident Racing will be back on-track in two weeks at Barcelona for the fourth round of the 2012 GP2 Series.
Julian Leal, 14th
“I did a pretty good start, confirming the positive impression I had yesterday, but at the first corner a contact created a big mess. In order to avoid the stuck cars I had to pass through the runoff area but luckily that didn't cause big damage. In the fist few laps the car handled more or less like yesterday with an improvement in terms of understeer. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to push like I would have liked since the beginning. Lap after lap I got great traction and that allowed me to do some passing although I still haven't enough speed to get into the top-10".
Stéphane Richelmi, 17th “Once again my start hasn't been great but I believe we know where the problem is now. The parameters set by the team last year don't fit with my driving style and I'm sure that everything is gonna be okay in the next race. In addition to the problems at the start, Dani Clos, who was in front of me, had to brake hard to avoid the stalled car of Van der Garde, who was in the middle of the track. Unfortunately, I tagged him and damaged my front wing. I believe it contributed to the vibration I felt for the whole race, and to the understeer which also worsened. In the closing stages though, I realized I had lot less tire wear issues than the others, and finally moved onto Coletti and Van der Garde.
