Quaife-Hobbs glad to leave Barcelona with points

One month has gone since the opening round of the 2014 season, and the GP2 Series made its way back on-track at Barcelona. The series’ Spanish meeting started with some tough luck for Adrian Quaife-Hobbs. The bad fortunes started in qualifying when Quaife-Hobbs ended up in 22nd place. As a consequence, Race 1 started with a considerable handicap. On the other hand, Quaife-Hobbs delivered a spectacular comeback: the British BRDC Super Star racer recovered up to the 9th position by the end of the 36-lap run. For him it’s the third straight points finish.

The second race of the GP2 Series weekend at Barcelona saw Adrian achieve less than expected in Montmelo. Adrian Quaife-Hobbs took-off from the fifth row on the grid and experienced an uneventful run which brought him a ninth place. After the completion of the second round of the 2014 season, the GP2 Series will be back on-track in two weeks at Monte Carlo at the world’s most spectacular street venue.

Said the driver after race one: "After the outcome of qualifying, having scored two points is an handsome reward for our efforts. The opening stages of the race have been quite eventful, and after the first laps it hasn’t been easy to keep a consistently quick pace because the soft tyres wore out pretty fast. After the pit-stop, I went back-on track determined to get more places back, but again the tyre wear conditioned the last part of our run so it was difficult to pass our rivals. Anyway I’m happy with my position because it enables me to keep fighting for points”.

And following race two: “In the closing stages I suffered from tyre degradation and I ended up without a shot at the points zone. At the start I battled my way up the field and recovered some places. At the third corner the cars I had in front braked very early, and while I managed not to hit the others, I was forced to slow down and lose ground. After this incident I set a good pace but lap after lap the front tyres started to lose grip and I struggled everywhere on the track. Now I look forward to Monte Carlo, where I scored a podium finish last year”.
