Facu Regalia has confirmed today he will compete in the GP2 Series this season, joining Hilmer Motorsport (Force India Academy Team) to drive one of the Franz Hilmer´s cars. Regalia, runner-up to Daniil Kvyat in GP3 last year, and his management team have been working on granted the necessary backing for competing in GP2.Last but not least Regalia joins Sahara Force India F1 Team as a development driver.
“I´m pleased to announce my participation in GP2 for this year, taking part in the series with Hilmer Motorsport, a team having a strong debut in the series last season, being able to fight for top-places. I would like to thank Force India for this opportunity, as they have helped us a lot. And it is not only my season in GP2, but the fact I´m joining the Driver Development Programme of Sahara Force India F1 Team, so my motivation could not be higher with these challenges ahead”, Regalia explained.
As always, Regalia expressed gratitude for the support of “my family, playing an important part in my motorsport career once again, and my manager Adrián Campos, who helped us a lot. It is worth mentioning new sponsors joining us this season, such as YPF or Marcelo Argüelles, or the prize money provided by Pirelli after finishing second in GP3. People participating in the “Argentina supports Facu Regalia” campaign deserves another special mention.
Bob Fernley, deputy team principal at Sahara Force India F1 team, was another great help for us. We are working since our season in GP3 came to an end, but we need to keep working in order to close the budget. We have some meetings for this matter soon, and hopefully we will achieve it. I´m at the gates of Formula 1 and I feel honored of representing my country at the highest level”.
GP2 calendar includes eleven venues this season, starting in April and finishing in November. This season the championship visits Bahrain, Spain, Monaco, Austria, England, Germany, Hungary, Belgium, Italia, Russia and Abu Dhabi.
