Southwater’s Jolyon Palmer endured a frustrating weekend (5-7 July) at the Nürburgring during rounds 11 and 12 of the F1-supporting GP2 Series.

The 22-year-old Carlin driver qualified 11th for Saturday’s feature race, but any hopes of a decent result in the first race were dashed while running inside the top ten.

"I was 10th under the Safety Car and running well until a mix up in the pit-stops meant the team weren't ready for me when I came in and the fitted the wrong tyres.

This basically ended my race as I needed a second stop as well," Jolyon commented.

Jolyon eventually finished in 24th place, meaning he would start from that position in Sunday’s sprint race. Again demonstrating his aptitude for gaining positions, he claimed 11th in Sunday’s contest, but unfortunately leaving him without points from the weekend, although satisfied at having produced another strong comeback drive.

“I started 24th and finished 11th so overall I'm fairly happy. Unfortunately we only had used prime tyres after the first race so I had to save the tyres all through the race. It's a shame we couldn't fight for points but considering the circumstances I'm not too unhappy."
