Brand new Shell fuel and lubricant to power the Ferrari F14 T

Shell is excited to announce today that Scuderia Ferrari’s new F14 T Formula One car will take to the track in Jerez with an entirely new suite of bespoke fuels and lubricants.

With Formula One technical regulations causing teams to focus heavily on energy efficiency in 2014, the latest range of Shell fuels and lubricants have been developed hand-in-hand with Ferrari to complement the re-introduction of the V6 Formula One engine.

Since the start of the 2014 project, Shell has provided Ferrari with more than 50 blends of its Shell V-Power race fuel for bench testing. Each one has been rigorously analysed and evaluated in preparation for the final and most important stage of testing on the track, which begins in Jerez next week.

The announcement comes following the highly anticipated unveiling of Scuderia Ferrari’s 2014 Formula One car, the F14 T, which features one of the most complex powertrains in Ferrari’s motor racing history. Scuderia Ferrari teammates Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen will get behind the wheel of the latest single-seater powered and protected by Shell’s bespoke range of Formula One products throughout the 2014 FIA Formula One World ChampionshipTM.

Speaking about the 2014 changes, Guy Lovett, Shell Technology Manager for Ferrari, commented: “The 2014 Formula One regulation changes represent one of the biggest challenges that we have faced in the sport since our partnership with Ferrari began in the 1930s – all in the pursuit of greater energy efficiency. Shell’s contribution to the performance of the new powertrain is crucial, which is why we have worked so closely with Ferrari throughout the stages of development of the 2014 engine to ensure that the fuels and lubricants we supply can meet the demands of this latest evolution in Formula One.

We have put a lot of work into this project with some very promising results so far. Now it’s a question of seeing how the fruits of our labour perform on the track and making the final adjustments needed to be ready for Melbourne.”
