DTM also on the move, at the 44th ‘Ball des Sports’

The appearance of five DTM drivers represented the framework for the tradition-rich charity gala of the foundation ‘Deutsche Sporthilfe’.

The ‘Jump to Sochi’ in Wiesbaden’s ‘Rhein-Main-Hallen’, organised on the occasion of the 44th ‘Ball des Sports’, also featured an involvement of the most popular international touring-car series. The appearance of five DTM drivers in the official safety-cars provided by Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz and the traditional conclusion of the event – the DTM Race Club – represented the framework for the tradition-rich charity gala of the foundation ‘Deutsche Sporthilfe’.

After greetings to the German Olympic squad sent via a live connection, 1.800 guests from sports, economy and politics as well as radio and TV witnessed a spectacular show and sports programme with jumps of any kind. And around midnight, the German band PUR made for the music highlight. For the eighth time, now, the most popular international touring-car series has been supporting the ‘Deutsche Sporthilfe’s’ charity event.

DTM Champion Mike Rockenfeller (Audi) loved to accept the invitation and the same applied to BMW pairing Augusto Farfus and Timo Scheider as well as Mercedes-Benz works drivers Christian Vietoris and Pascal Wehrlein. Together with Dr Wolfgang Ullrich, Head of Audi Motorsport, BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt and Wolfgang Schattling, Head of DTM Management Mercedes-Benz, they watched the programme in the ballroom.

Top sportsmen such as former European Champion Christian Reif and Paralympics Gold Medallist Heinrich Popow (both long-jump) demonstrated the guests, lead by the likes of Federal Secretary of the Interior, Dr Thomas de Maizière and Hesse’s Prime Minister, Volker Bouffier, jumping at its best. In addition, a female ski jumper levitated into the ballroom in spectacular style.

After the official part of the charity event and inspired by so much action, the DTM drivers also tested their skills at the numerous activity stops in the ‘Rhein-Main-Hallen’, particularly by playing baseball, handball with goal keeper Andreas Thiel and basketball with former European Champion Hansi Gnad but had even more fun at the race simulators featuring the DTM game DTM Experience that invited the guests to test their racing skills right in front of the DTM Race Club entrance.

After the midnight show of PUR, DTM took command over the music programme. In the Race Club, the guests were entertained by the band ‘New City Beats’ and danced the night away.

Although the ‘Rhein-Main-Hallen’ will be rebuilt, in the coming three years, Wiesbaden will keep on hosting the ‘Ball des Sports’. Sven Gerich (SPD), Wiesbaden’s Lord Mayor, announced a new ten-year contract with ‘Deutsche Sporthilfe’.
